The Bantha Deception in A New Hope Episode IV: Why would Stormtroopers slaughter Jawas?...

The question as to why Stormtrooper would slaughter Jawas is in my opinion far from the main question that springs to my mind when I watch this part of A New Hope.

Sandtrooper Dewback Patrol

We see Sandtroopers riding Dewbacks, but there are Bantha tracks leading up to the Jawas' Sandcrawler, so we can only assume that at some point the Sandtroopers switched steeds in order to blame it on the Tusken Raiders. Where did the Stormtroopers get the Banthas from? They didn't exactly have time to tame any so perhaps they took them from some Tusken Raiders? And, if they were riding Banthas then this suggests a planned attack on the Jawas. Why would they go to all the trouble of planning the attack and why, once they'd interrogated the Jawas and slaughtered them, would they bother to hide their actions so thoroughly? Since there is a lot of urgency to find the droids, planning the interrogation and murder of Jawas and then covering it up seems a little ridiculous, when they could have just ridden up on Dewbacks interrogated them, shot them and gone on to the Lars homestead. The Bantha deception is just an awful waste of time and Imperial resources.

Tusken Raiders and Bantha

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
