Carbon-Freezing Chamber Playset Power of the Jedi Overview

Bespin Carbon freezing Chamber Playset portrait

The Power of the Jedi Carbon-Freezing Chamber Playset is an excellent addition to the Cloud City merchandise available and finally added the potential for a bit of three-dimensionality to Bespin action figure displays. Just about every planet had a playset assigned to it before Bespin in the original Kenner toys, from the Death Star Playset, to the Droid Factory, The Land of the Jawas and the Imperial Attack Base, Endor has it's Ewok Village and Jabba's Palace had its throne playset. Bespin by comparison had very little to flesh it out until the Power of the Jedi series brought us this Carbon-Freezing Chamber Playset. It has the feel of the spatial dimensions from the scene in film, and as well as the Carbon Freezing scene can double up for the fateful duel between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The gunner turret from the Carbon Freezing Chamber Playset looks out of place (it's been removed on the one I have but it looks to be the same canon that's used in the Power of the Force Death Star Escape playset except with a red missile.)

The prison cell and the swing-out control panel beneath the chamber of the Carbon-Freezing Chamber Playset make good use of the space available. The Carbon Freeze block allows you to carbon freeze figures of your choice which for kids adds no end of play value, adding as it does a bit of imagination into the mix. The Bespin Guard who comes with the playset though is chronically ugly.

The Power of the Jedi Bespin Carbon-Freezing Chamber Playset is slightly smaller than I expected and doesn't have quite as much of the feel of authenticity that comes with the shield generator from the Endor Attack Playset for instance but it is nonetheless still a very good piece of kit.

If you have the accessories which come with the 2002 Saga Series Bespin Duel Darth Vader you can also add some towers and railings to the playset.

Unfortunately, when I originally took photos of the Bespin Freezing Chamber playset I didn't yet have a complete Kenner Ugnaught, so the ones shown in the photos above are missing their case and apron accessories.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
