To my mind the one thing that makes any battle for Echo Base diorama come to life is having one of the laser turret canons that are so iconic to the Empire Strikes Back. We've had the vintage exploding Radar Laser Cannons since the beginning, but these are just bit-players in the battle. The Hoth Laser Turret is just as essential a part of the scenery as a Snowspeeder or AT-AT. I was so pleased to finally get my hands on one of these, even though I never owned the rest of this Hoth battle pack.

The original vintage Turret and Probot set wasn't just hard to get hold off, it also didn't make sense. The scenes with Han and Chewie taking out the Imperial Probe Droid and the battle against the AT-ATs are two completely different scenes. What makes them sit even less well together is that it not only throws out the sequence of the movie, it also jars against cause and effect within the movie. The Imperial Probe Droid's discovery of Echo Base is what leads the Empire to Hoth and subsequently precipitates Veers's attack on Echo Base with his deadly AT-ATs. The battle in which the Laser Turrets take part is a consequence of the Probot's discovery and as such the two do not feel right together side-by-side. This is something which has bothered me for decades and probably says more about me than it does about the vintage Star Wars playset itself.

The Battle of Hoth Ultimate Pattle Pack also came with a Scout Walker (and AT-ST Driver), two Snow Troopers, a Snow Trooper Commander, one Rebel Trooper, one Rebel Officer (Major Bren Derlin repaint), a Han Solo and a Luke Skywalker in Snowspeeder Outfit.

The Snowtroopers are almost identical to the late Saga Collection Snowtrooper, but have more yellow-ish staining on their torsos. The Luke is the 30th Anniversary Luke Skywalker Snowspeeder Pilot which for some reason came with an Obi-Wan Kenobi Lightsaber.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
