Vintage Kenner Action Figures A New Hope

Kenner Sand People (Tusken Raider) 1978 Action Figure: Overview

Sand People Figure Kenner Vintage

As much I as Love my vintage Sand People action figures now, when I was a kid they didn't really have all that much play value compared to the other 'baddies' from A New Hope. The Sand People or Tusken Raiders only make a cameo appearance in the film and only really interact with Luke so there wasn't really that much you could do with them. Unless you were lucky enough to have a vintage Dewback (which was meant for Stormtroopers anyway), they didn't have steeds or vehicles of any kind and after you'd spent five minutes admiring your new acquisition and maybe a few more minutes battering your Landspeeder with a Gaffi stick most Sand People were pretty redundant.

Find Vintage Sand People action figure on eBay

These days it's pretty hard to get hold on Vintage Sand People with both their capes and Gaffi sticks (Gaderffii sticks). In fact, I'd resorted to buying a repro cloak for one of my Sand People only a few days before I eventually managed to pick up a Kenner Tusken Raider complete with cloak and Gaffi stick on eBay for a good price. This however turned out to have a very bad repro cape and the Gaffi stick although it looks really good didn't pass the float test. Plenty of other original items came with this job lot and the Tusken Raider himself still has a lot of the silver paint on his head which is quite rare.

Sand People Figures Kenner Paint Loss

The most common paint loss on the Kenner Tusken Raider figure appears to be on the eyes and cheeks and on the silver nodes on their head. Their brown gloves also tend to lose a little bit of paint.

All the Kenner Sand People figures I own are the solid cheek version.

See my article on Banthas, Gaderffii Sticks and Lucas's Sources for Tatooine.

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
