Imperial Probe Droid (Hoth Recon Patrol) Action Figure: Overview

Imperial Probe Droid Figure Legacy Collection

The Imperial Probe Droid (known as Probot in its vintage Kenner iteration) comes from my favourite scene from the Empire Strikes Back when Han and Chewie get him in a pincer movement from front and back and Chewie waves hi to him, distracting him from Han's attack. It's both strategy and pantomime comedy ('he's behind yoooou!) all rolled in to one with the additional raising of dramatic tension since we now know that the Empire have found Echo Base. There's such a lot going on with this very minimalistic and pared down scene. It's sheer cinematic brilliance and it manages to show and tell us all this without the breathless and frenetic sequences of action and events that plague The Force Awakens. In this scene we are in the hands of a master storyteller.

There is also an early 1996 Deluxe Edition Imperial Probe Droid. The main difference (aside from the snow on this version) between the two appears to be that the panels on the bottom half of the body of the 1996 version are indented. The chronologically later figure also comes as part of a Recon Patrol Battle Pack.

The Imperial Probe Droid came as part of the Hoth Recon Patrol five pack along with a Han Solo, Chewbacca, K-3PO and a much sought after R5-M2 which I don't have. For some reason the Chewbacca came without any snow on him so far as I can tell (unlike the Saga Series Commemorative Tin Chewbacca or the Saga Series Battle of Hoth four-pack Chewbacca). The Han Solo is a rather Legacy Collection figure . In the banner photo above the Imperial Probe Droid is shown with the Saga Series Han and Chewie figures from the Commemorative Tin pack.

Other Legacy Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
