R2-B1 (Astromech Droid) Action Figure: Overview

R2-B1 Figure 30th Anniversary portrait

The 30th Anniversary R2-B1 action figure is a lovely looking blue astromech droid. Unfortunately the head rotation has seized up on the R2-B1 figure that I have. The astromech droid figure came with a power harness and a 30th Anniversary collector's coin.

In the scene from The Phantom Menace in which R2-B1 and his comrades work to save the Naboo Royal Starship in the escape from Naboo only R2-D2 survives and he is praised by Queen Amidala for his bravery. For some reason the poor astromech droids who perished (including R2-B1) were quickly forgotten. In fact, astromech droids seem to be particularly expendable if they don't happen to be called R2-D2. When Obi-Wan's astromech droid R4-P17 is destroyed by Buzz Droids during The Battle of Coruscant, Obi-Wan has little more to say about the matter than 'oh dear!'. No wonder that by the time of Episode IV, Obi-Wan can't seem to ever remember owning a droid before. He's a bit of a snob when it comes to those he considers to be lower lifeforms, as is also evidenced by his reaction upon first meeting Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace.

Other 30th Anniversary Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
