R5-F7 Figure and Y-Wing Pilot with Y-Wing Fighter 30th Anniversary

R5-F7 and Y-Wing Pilot Action Figure: Overview

R5-F7 Figure and Y-Wing Pilot 30th Anniversary

This Star Wars A New Hope astromech R5-F7 action figure doesn't appear on the Jedi Business website at the time of writing. I eventually found a photo of the Astromech packed in with a 30th Anniversary Collection Y-Wing fighter and an unnamed Y-Wing Pilot figure.

Wookieepedia identify both the pilot and droid as follows:

R5-F7 was the astromech droid for Lieutenant Lepira during the assault on the first Death Star at the Battle of Yavin.

This astromech was first identified when it was released as a Hasbro action figure as part of a 2007 Toys "R" Us exclusive. It was packaged with a BTL Y-Wing starfighter that also included Lepira.

See http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R5-F7.

I only have the pilot and R5-F7 action figure from this set and I don't have the complete Y-Wing Fighter. The figures are photographed here with a Power of the Force Y-Wing Fighter just to give them some context. The red and yellow detailing on R5-F7 matches the pilot figure's helmet which is a really nice touch.

The R5-F7 action figure is a nicely designed R5 unit with articulated feet, removable tripod leg and a clicking head which when you turn it moves his antenna up and down. The date stamp on the astromech figure is 2006.

One unusual thing about this astromech droid is that you get both the complete astromech droid figure in the set and also his head is situated on the Y-Wing Fighter so he's effectively in two places at once. It's not often that either LucasFilm or Hasbro messes about with the laws of quantam physics and you have to wonder whether if the two R5-F7's got too close together it would create a paradox. My R5-F7 action figure seems to have a shorter antenna than the packaged examples I've consulted but aside from this he seems to be identical in every way.

The Y-Wing Pilot action figure is beautifully designed with great creases on his fatigues. He's also nicely proportioned with good articulation. The figure's helmet looks to have red Squadron insignia, rather than the Gold Squadron we might expect. Unusually, (unless I've missed something on the packaging) the Y-Wing Pilot does not seem to have been given a name either from the Star Wars movies or the Expanded Universe and I'm unsure of Wookieepedia's source for identifying him as Lieutenant Lepira at the moment. However Jedi Temple Archives do have an explanation for the identification of the 30th Anniversary Lieutenant Lepira figure: see here.

Update: I recently picked up the 30th Anniversary Collection Y-Wing Fighter as part of a job lot. It's missing all of its back engine parts and one of it's front guns, but now that I've seen it up close I can appreciated just what a beautifully detailed rendition of a Y-Wing Fighter it is. My R5-F7 and Lieutenant Lepira figures look great displayed with this Y-Wing Fighter.

Other 30th Anniversary Collection Action Figures

All Star Wars action figures, vehicles, collectibles and Star Wars toys shown on this website are the 3.75 inch scale and from my own private Star Wars collection unless otherwise stated. Where possible original vintage accessories have been used but in some instances I have placed Kenner Star Wars figures with either reproduction weapons and accessories or for Hasbro figures close approximations have been used. This is mostly the case for modern Star Wars lightsabers where the correct item can be very difficult to identify on some ocassions. Vintage Star Wars action figures are shown with their original weapon or accessory when I have them. When a vintage Kenner action figure is shown with an accessory which is not original I have tried to point this out where possible.

All of the Star Wars action figures shown were purchased second hand, usually incomplete, and in bulk. They have been reunited with their original weapons and accessories where we could get hold of them.
